Guthrie Ambassador Program
The Guthrie Ambassador Program is a series of free classes on the history, architectural restoration and current assets of our city as they relate to tourism. The goal of the program is to educate local residents on the documented history of our town and on the details that make us unique. Sales people, wait staff, festival volunteers, lodging staffs and anyone who wants to learn about this fascinating city are encouraged to participate.
Classes will be held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm each Thursday evening beginning September 11th for four consecutive weeks. Enrollment is free and open to the public. For those ‘Ambassadors’ that participate in all four sessions and complete a Visit Guthrie Check List there will be a brief graduation presentation on October 2nd directly after that evening’s session. Ambassadors will be honored at the 2009 Chamber Banquet and recognized as an educated and involved ambassador for our community. For those that have time to volunteer, Ambassadors could sign up to meet groups as they visit our town, give brief history talks and represent Guthrie at travel shows, etc. There are other opportunities suited for educated historians of our town, but most importantly we want to get the facts to those that meet the public everyday and educate them to be better ambassadors for our community. More details are available at www.guthrieok.com or call the Chamber at 282-1947. |
